”…they continued steadfastly…and in prayers…then fear came upon every soul….” [Acts 2:41]
“God loves us too much to allow us to continue in the way we are going…” These were the words spoken through a 21st. Century prophet—we would have to agree. The words ‘ground zero’ have come to represent unmitigated destruction; unimaginable suffering that strikes our hearts with a new awareness of a God that knows and sees and tests our faith of His great love.
No parent stands idly by watching as his or her child plays with fire or dances with danger and neither does our Heavenly Father. He is allowing even nature itself to bring us to our knees, but as we cry out for deliverance we must also be listening for the wisdom that changes our lives. I recently heard a father who was defending his son say, “My children walk behind me not in front of me”.
In the early days the disciples prayed and it resulted in …fear coming upon every soul and many signs and wonders were done…” They must have experienced prayer in such a way that they were in ‘reverential awe’ which expresses fear of the Lord. “The remarkable thing about fearing God is that when you fear God you fear nothing else, whereas if you do not fear God you fear everything else.” [Oswald Chambers]
What a dichotomy security, serenity and utmost confidence is found only in fear—a fear of the Lord. It will ‘come upon you’ if you are following your Heavenly Father so great is His love and power!
