Go, strengthen yourself; take note; and see what you should do…  –1 Kings 20:22

There are three things that are needful if you are going to be ready for the moment God’s victory is manifested, His Spirit comes, the dawn breaks, your moment of success is revealed or the enemy knocks on your door:

1.  Strengthen yourself. Waiting on God is not a time of falling asleep. There are things that only you can do that God will not do for you.  As a neighbor once told me, “The Lord is not going to fold your laundry!”  There are things you are responsible for.  Paul said to Timothy, “Stir up the gift within you.  Study to show yourself approved.  Guard what was committed to your trust.  Give attention to reading to exhortation, to doctrine.  Get strong in the Grace that is in Christ Jesus.”

2.  Take note. Write it down!  Hearing is often impaired and direction snatched from the mind, but when it’s written down, it’s less likely to be forgotten.  But beware, written instruction brings with it responsibility.

3.  See what you should do.  Written direction gives sight to what has been said.  You “see”  what is needful, no more excuses or questions.  What would God have me do?  It is written!  “Our Lord never insists upon obedience; He tells us very emphatically what we ought to do, but He never takes means to make us do it”  (Oswald Chambers).
