You must get along with each other.  You must learn to be considerate of one another, cultivating a life in common” [1 Corinthians 1:10 The Message]

Around the world from palace to prison, from pentagon to playground from senators to stenographers, man still struggles to ‘get along’.  The amazing thing is God has given us a pivotal point whereby we have power to get along, even with our enemies; it’s called the Cross of Calvary! The hill called Calvary is high enough if you stand where Jesus stood you will have a whole new perspective.  In the book called “Total Forgiveness” R.T. Kendall says,   “It is almost impossible to say which comes first – forgiving others so you will be able to forgive yourself, or forgiving yourself so you will be able to forgive others.  But it is not total forgiveness until both are equally true.”

There is enough power in the resurrection to heal every wounded soul and bring harmony to every heart.  In the NIV our verse for today says it this way. “I appeal to you, brothers in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another so that there may be no divisions among you and that you may be perfectly united in mind and thought”.

There are two things to remember when communications seem to be in trouble.  First, take time-out.  Time is a resting-place for the mind to sort, sift, and see different perspectives, consider the possibility – you could be wrong.  Second, listen, really listen to others.  Narrow mindedness becomes even narrower when you are the center of your own thinking, nothing much grows in a little space.  Cultivate the ability to see from a different vantage point.   If the Cross of Christ does anything it provides the pivotal point of increased perspective and seeing beyond our own small mindedness.
