“…small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”  Matthew 7:14

If you don’t take a risk in living, you may risk not living at all.  Now this stepping forward sounds like “catching the wind” — exciting, refreshing, full of hope and inspiration — but there’s more.

Boundaries and balance are part of the risk-taking life when “catching the wind.”  It is governed by ground rules. The very first “ground rule” God gave came in the form of a negative!  Day after day He created and proclaimed, “It is good” until He made man and observed man’s aloneness. Then for the first time, God said, “It is not good…It is not good for man to be alone” (Genesis 2:18).

Alone, man becomes his own God.  Alone, man can do nothing.  Alone, the demons control the conversation and man’s independence becomes a curse that cripples him.    True freedom knows the need of connection with God that forever requires relationship with the “other” and in God’s priority system the “other” is a female.

The first boundary was one of a holy relationship whose image looked different from Adam’s own.  Sin separated and isolation took hold, however.  To isolate is the first principle of addiction.  The independence found in God is not good unless or until it is no longer alone.  There has to be the other or love has nowhere to go.   “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13). That one statement connects the dots of man’s dilemma and the deception that lies within false freedom.   It is not good for man to be alone and, thus, entered the day of accountability.   When the secret strength of independence is Christ, the need of the “other” is experienced in unity.  Communication opens the door and truth sets you free!
