He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, ‘Quiet! Be still!’ Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.”  Mark 4:39

When the wind is “still,” a greater quietness, trust and patience is necessary.  When discernment detains us for a time, nothing appears to be happening, but it gives the opportunity to find deeper meaning within the portals of the ship’s moorings.  Do not allow detainment to grow disappointment, but rather “Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart” (Psalm 37:4).

We need these times to make sure we are “on the same page,” not creating a storm, nor hanging to the shoreline of yesterday.  Complete calmness brings clarity of thought and will open the windows of heaven for wisdom to descend into your heart. It is here that humility begins to reveal itself, as all control is released and true freedom is tasted.

Only Christ as the Living Word can take dominion over the wind, command it by His Word to “be still,” and only Christ can cause your sail to “catch the wind” so that you know the thrill of partnering with Him.  To sit in the sun, to learn how your ship was crafted, to know the purposes for which you set sail and to wait until the moment when suddenly the rope slips through the ring, you lean forward watching as the wind fills your sail and sets you free.
