”Do not be afraid. Stand firm…” Exodus 14:12
Stop panicking. When you come to your own “red-sea,” don’t panic; don’t over react. This challenging place will cause you to doubt, to complain and to react in fear. Take control over your emotions. Remember whose you are, for whose purpose you were born, whose plan you are living out and who, without a doubt, will take you through!
Stand firm. See the deliverance of the Lord. Remember, “If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all” (Isaiah 7:9). Standing faith is stretching faith. “Faith is like muscle which grows stronger and stronger with use, rather than rubber, which weakens when it is stretched” (J.O. Fraser, missionary to China).
Stop the inner turbulence. Be still; calm down; chill out. Don’t wander down the path of “what if.” Recall the last time trouble hit. “I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry…He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God” (Psalm 40:1,3).
Slip into the cleft of the rock. Like the swaddling clothes of Christ in the manger, the Holy Spirit “swaddles” those who cry out to him. The peace becomes practical as the mind unwinds with wisdom and the body loosens the springs of tension. This is the inheritance of the saints, not a life without “red seas,” but a life standing prepared and ready to “go through” every “red sea” of life.
