“Is the Lord among us or not?”  (Exodus 17:7)

Remember all those Gothic romances—the gauntlet is thrown down, the tension rises and someone has to respond to the challenge.  It was a moment of proving their courage, their confidence and their commitment to the one who’s honor was at stake and for them to show themselves honorable.

Life is a series of challenges or if you prefer tests, it’s an obstacle course of possibilities and potential.   Tests are there not to tempt us into believing God is not with us but to prove we believe that He is.  At the end when the grave marker is positioned it will reveal only when the challenges began and when they ended.  What happened in the—dash will be written not on slabs of marble but on the hearts of the men and women that were influenced by how we met the challenges.

There are three ways not to face a challenge—feelings—fear—fantasy.  Facing challenges by trusting feelings will only prove that feelings are fickle and untrustworthy.  Facing challenges fearfully will freeze your thoughts and fixate your actions.  Facing the challenges of life in fantasy will leave you falling into the fairyland of falsehoods.

There is a better way—Jesus said;  Feed your spirit on the fact of God, “It takes more than bread to stay alive.  It takes a steady stream of words from God’s mouth.”  (Matthew 4:4 TM).  He said, counter the negative influence of challenges with this citation—“Don’t you dare test the Lord your God.”  (Matthew 4:7-TM) and  the secret of successfully facing the challenge is by backing your belief with this—“Worship the Lord your God, and only him.  Serve him with absolute single-heartedness.” (Matthew 4:10-TM)

Today remember—when one has their name on the honor roll it signifies they did well on all their tests!
