“He must increase, but I must decrease” [John 3:30]
Yesterday we spoke of separation and let-go. The joy of this process is that in letting-go there is something to reach for. Less of our natural and temporal life, those things we hang onto suddenly yield to something spiritual and eternal. The very life and presence of God; the power of the resurrection.
In the place of what is often strings of manipulation, the cords of God’s love bring great power.
We never lose when transacting business God’s way. All of the ‘education and experience’ of the past couldn’t get the disciples what they needed to make a good living. But when doing business God’s way and letting go of what they thought they knew brought them great bounty in their fishing enterprise. We only have to do what God has equipped, trained and educated us to do, but if we want to see the increase it will need to be more God’s way and less of our own!
Self-denial sounds harsh until you experience the joy and increase of doing things according to what God has said. It is His proven road to success. “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous and then you will have good success.”
God says if you want to succeed here’s what to do:
Let the word be daily nourishment to you. Spend some time thinking about the word, chew on it. Understanding will cause you to see what to do; you will have a sense of self-worth, accomplishment, be prosperous and succeed.
