“Walk out into the daylight sober, dressed up in faith, love, and the hope of salvation.”  [1 Thessalonians 5:8 The Message]

It’s that time again—switching clothing from closet to storage as appropriate to the season—not a favorite chore but necessary and a time of sorting out what we keep, what we toss, and what we give away.  But what do we really need?   In the NIV Paul says it this way,  ”…putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet”

Faith and love cover and protect the heart—hope protects the head because it’s in the head that the brain processes the thoughts but remember Paul tells us,   “…we have the mind of Christ”  [1 Corinthians 2:16]  To think like Christ reflects the character of our heavenly Father and we have—contentment  so ”Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have because God has said, Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”  [Hebrews 13:5]

It means we have confidence  and can say, ”The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?”  [Hebrews 13:6]

And it means we are committed  to the truth, ”Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings.  It is good for our hearts to be strengthened by grace…” [Hebrews 13:9]

Remember this morning as you dress for the season; keep what fits your form and function according to God’s plan.  Toss what is no longer ‘right’ for your lifestyle, and give only what is good to others.
