Even so, he is hungry and his strength fails, He drinks no water and is faint” [Isaiah 44:12b]

God’s wisdom is so simple – we keep missing it.  In the natural we are constantly reminded how important it is to drink plenty of fluids especially water and especially during high temperatures.  What a wonderful metaphor that is for spiritual health.

I’ve been asked many times, “how many times has the Lord healed you”?  My answer has been – “every time I have been sick!”   God’s prescription has always been the same.  Whenever I have been ill, faint or weary I have sought the Lord and these two instructions have been given throughout my spiritual life—rest and drink plenty of water!

The work of the blacksmith used prophetically here by Isaiah is a hot and strenuous task, much self-effort and hard labor is required.  Isaiah says – all that work will wear you out, it requires you to eat and drink to keep up your strength even so your work has become idolatrous.

The spiritual man needs energy also and many of God’s people are ‘fainting’.  They neither rest in the finished work of Christ nor drink from the fountain that Christ has provided.   His Word not only feeds and cleanses, it is like crystal clear water providing healing for the sin sick soul.  “For the lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters.  And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes” [Revelation 7:17]. This morning drink deeply from His stream and find strength for the day, His love has provided all you need.

D—drink from the wells of your salvation

R—rest in the finished work of Christ

I—incline your ear to hear His voice

N—nourish your soul on His Word

K—Kneel before His Throne
