“…tell the children of Israel to go forward” [Exodus 14:15]

As I stood on the top of Brass Town Bald I could see nothing but God’s creation—no man-made power lines, concrete buildings, bridges or streets—nothing but the beauty of God’s creation and  His voice said, “I want you to look at what I have created not what man has produced”   and as I listened I also understood that when the pilgrims came to this land and perhaps stood on this same mountain top they knew the surge of hope and gratitude for what God had accomplished in freeing them from religiosity and tradition.

To reach back now and replay, or reinstate the old way, would have been at best stifling and at worst cause utter failure.  Life that looks in the rear view mirror for direction can know nothing but bondage!

Like the Israelites of old if you are following the drum beat of the Holy Spirit you must go fearlessly into the unknown trusting the one that had set you free—not the old way of doing things.  For God has said, “He guides me in paths of righteousness for His name sake”. [Psalm 23:3]

Nevertheless, there was a second understanding that day which is an ever present reality.  As beautiful as the landscape was the fact remained there would be giants in the land.  Like David we must call to remembrance how God has equipped us in past times, how His promise of overcoming life will meet the need and although we are to be vessels of courage—the battle is the Lord’s!  We have this Word.

Do not be afraid.  Stand firm and you will see the deliverance of the Lord will bring you today.  The Egyptians you see today you will never see again.  The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still” [Exodus 14:13]
