”You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again…”  [Matthew 5:13a]

War, flood, fires, gas prices rising daily, women killing their babies—the world has nothing but bad news that promotes fear!  Fear is the enemy of faith and keeps you in bondage—at the very least you wouldn’t think of taking a step into the unknown at the risk of loosing the comfort of where you are—or would you—Bartimaeus did!   The world around you is full of those like Bartimaeus.

See the picture—leaving the city after many things happening—they always happened when Jesus was on the scene—we can only imagine the miracles that had been taking place—the people wouldn’t want to leave His presence—they didn’t want to miss seeing what would happen next.  There was not just a multitude but a GREAT multitude—in a hot and dusty land, flies everywhere—children crying –teenagers scuffing and roughhousing—those who were wondering if this was real—talking among themselves—could this really be real? In the middle of all the noise Bartimaeus shouted!  “…Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” [Mark 10:36]

Jesus—stood still—above all the activity Jesus always hears a desperate cry!  Jesus—commanded him to be called!—then they called him—Who are they?   The disciples of Christ… those who are the salt of the earth. YOU—

Can you hear the blind calling out—the sick needing help—the poor needing a hand up—Jesus said, “So send I you…”  Go tell them—“…Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.”  [Matthew 10:49]
