“Christ: From whom the whole body fitly joined together…” (Ephesians 4:16a)

Recently I was watching through the window as birds of all shapes and sizes came to feed from the feeder. Some were quite large and didn’t seem to balance or belong on the edge of the little feeder but then suddenly one tiny little finch came and was able, not only to balance but walk inside the little feeder as if he belonged. These words came to mind, ‘MADE TO FIT’. I smiled to myself at such a simple yet profound thought and allowed it to ramble around in my mind as if chewing to savor its wisdom.

The meaning behind the words gave comfort as I thought about how I have been continually stretched, sorted, sifted and ‘made to fit’ an assortment of tasks and places. I have certainly been shaken and shaped to fit and be content among many different lands and cultures.

Many of us may not feel comfortable where God has us but His Word will always bring us the comfort we need. Knowing that the God that uniquely designed each one of us has and is, ‘making us to fit’ wherever he has sent us, or whatever task He has given us to do. If you find yourself in similar circumstances this morning here are three things to remember from  Ephesians 2:10.

1. GOD HAS THE BLUE PRINT OF OUR LIVES.  “For we are God’s workmanship…”

2.  OUR LIFE PLAN IS PREDESTINED IN HIM.  “…created in Christ Jesus to do good works…”.

3.  PREPARATION IS COMPLETE IN HIM.  “…which God prepared in advance for us to do”

To follow Christ is to walk in the discomfort of the unknown frontier lands of spiritual dimensions. In his book “Rhythms of the Inner Life” Howard R. Macy says, “The spiritual world…cannot be made suburban. It is always frontier, and if we would live in it, we must accept and even rejoice that it remains untamed.

Today go ahead and let God sift, sort and stretch you—you’ll be amazed at the new shape you develop!
