This month shall be your beginning of months; it shall be the first month of the year to you”   [Exodus 12:2]

As Moses led the children of Israel so Jesus Christ leads us.  Paul said these things are written as an example to us.  The Passover marked the beginning of a New Year it changed the Nation of Israel— and left a legacy for us to learn from.

As individuals who had been in slavery and under the control of the enemy the people of God had to be willing to follow certain criteria—maintaining their freedom was contingent upon these things.

One—Take responsibility for being part of the family of God.

Two—Give up the old way of living

Three—Be willing to exchange what had been good for the best

Four—Risk leaving the comfort of where they were and strike out into unknown territory

Christ is our Passover and we are free!  We are free from the bondage of the law—a freedom that saves man from the death grip of sin and releases him into making his own choices and these are the choices we have been given.  This freedom is the internal freedom Paul expressed by the words ”…Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”  [Philippians 3:13-14]

Get started in this New Year by making the choice of freedom!
