“…No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; for the patch pulls away from the garment, and the tear is made worse” [Matthew 9:16]

Why don’t we take the Word of God at face value!  The wine is the Spirit of God – the skin is the structure or framework that the wine is poured in to.  ”He said, ‘Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God.’ He takes away the first that He may establish the second.  By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all” [Hebrews10:9-10]

Basic, elementary and easily understood.  So why do we as intelligent human beings keep trying to take what Jesus and His sacrifice has given and use it as a ‘patch’ to make the old look good and then expect His Life to be contained by it.   “Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?”  [1 Corinthians 6:19].  Old ways and rituals do not contain the life of Christ; you do!

The old way of doing things was good at one time.  Something new and different has been provided for us.  The glorious Body of Christ has become the new ‘skin’ into which God desires to pour the unlimited power of His Holy Spirit! ”Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually.”  [1 Corinthians 12:27]  So what’s the problem?

The problem is man cannot control the power unless he puts it into a skin he can recognize and manipulate.  The old way of doing things is comfortable.  It creates a structure that removes responsibility for daily living and places it in the hands of earthly authorities.  Clear thinking and personal choice is at best ‘mudded’ and at worst totally lost as everyone follows the pied piper into the poppy field of inertia.
