And the Apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith.” [Luke 17:5 NKJ]

I awoke one morning to the sound of the Spirit’s voice saying — you don’t need more money — you need more faith.  My first thought was … I haven’t asked for money!  But then I remembered I had recently applied for a grant from a local charity with the goal of helping young women get a fresh start.   Obviously finances are a necessity to sustain life in the natural world.  I was being reminded that there are times we may need more financial help but the greatest need was for more faith.

Faith is not stepping out on a limb presumptuously believing God will meet whatever you want.  Faith is receiving direction from the Holy Spirit, acting in obedience to what He says and knowing whatever is necessary for God’s plan shall be made available.  This has been a way of life for me as it had obviously been for the Apostles who were now asking the Lord to increase their faith!

The first place increase becomes visible is through relationships – relationships that grow from the foundation of truth.  The apostles said… “increase our faith” …their question came after hearing Jesus talk about the necessity and power of forgiveness. [Luke 17:1-5]   When life is built on that morale ground, faith, as small as a mustard seed will pull a tree up by its roots!   It will have strength and power to do the impossible.  What is needed in greater measure then is faith, faith that is working through love accepting and affirming our fellowman.

Out of that paradigm Spiritual life flows to produce all that is needed.  “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”  [Philippians 4:19]
