”Listen carefully: Unless a grain of wheat is buried in the ground, dead to the world, it is never any more than a grain of wheat. But if it is buried, it sprouts and reproduces itself many times over.” [John 12:24 The Message]
In the movie ‘Evans Almighty’ God, [played by Morgan Freeman] explains to a young wife how answered prayers often come as opportunities to produce the required request—in her case prayer for increase in family closeness came as trouble and confusion that could either drive the family apart or draw them close… the choice was hers.
In the scene before us Jesus continued by saying,” In the same way, anyone who holds on to life just as it is destroys that life. But if you let it go, reckless in your love, you’ll have it forever, real and eternal.”
At this time of social and economic upheaval our scripture this morning is one of paramount importance. It spells out the ‘let go and let God’ principle that uses all things to work together for the good. And the only prerequisite is… love God.
Life is never static—it is always changing and in God always increasing. Whatever your prayer request is today, trust God for the strategy to produce the desired result, the power to persevere and the patience to plod on while change and increase takes place.
