”So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded” [Hebrews 10:35]
Eugene Price in the Message puts it this way—“So don’t throw it all away now. You were sure of yourselves then. It’s still a sure thing! But you need to stick it out, staying with God’s plan so you’ll be there for the promised completion.”
Confidence means assurance of mind, firm belief, trust or reliance. Today and tomorrow we will share some reasons why confidence wanes and how to avoid the pitfalls.
- Allowing other people to manipulate you. When this happens run like Joseph did “…he…fled and ran outside.”[Genesis 39:13] Take a walk, get away and center yourself in Christ alone—motivation comes from within—encouragement from without—manipulation from the enemy.
- Becoming overtired. Being overtired will leave you feeling harassed, empty, lonely and powerless–so take a nap like Elijah did, ”…then he lay and slept…” Sometimes taking a nap is the most spiritual thing you can do.
- Comparison. Comparing leads to coveting like David did, ”…he saw a woman bathing… the woman was very beautiful to behold” [2 Samuel 11:2] or criticism like Aaron and Miriam did, “…has the Lord spoken only through Moses? Has He not spoken through us also? [Numbers 12:2]
- Doubting. Thomas couldn’t see so he doubted ”…unless I see…I will not believe…” [John 20:25] Don’t doubt…hold onto the promises of God. Believe regardless of what you see and be doubly blessed.
Confidence is not snatched away with one swipe of the enemy’s switch it erodes little by little. The solution is to cling to the finished work the Cross and your confidence will soar!
