”…Moses sent them to explore Canaan…” [Numbers 13:17a]
Those sent by Moses were supposed to bring back a report—not make a judgement call about whether or not they wanted to move forward. They were about to move into a whole new season and Moses wanted a team of leaders to ‘go and explore’, “…all of them were leaders…” [Numbers 13:3b] The instructions were to check it out; Moses wanted some demographics, not to swing the vote for or against. The land was a gift and you don’t look a gift horse in the mouth. Do you? The leaders needed to prepare themselves to influence the people and possess their God given inheritance.
The instructions were what kind of people live where you are going? Strong or weak, few or many? What is their lifestyle, what do they place their trust in for security and what is the potential of the land, is it poor or fertile? In other words, who are they, what are they like, and what can the land produce? The answer to these questions would be the answers to the major question of how do we plan and how do we prepare to possess the promise of God. Instead they fell for the manipulation and subtle voices of the giants saying, “who do you think you are, you think you’re good enough to receive, you think you can do what”? Ignore the voices, check out the field of endeavor God has given and prepare to advance.
Leadership faith prepares today for tomorrow, seeks guidance and wisdom by knowing ahead of time how to receive. Leadership faith seeks to know what is needful to influence and affect the nation they have been given and how to turn the people back to the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
