”I am the world’s Light no one who follows me stumbles around in the darkness. I provide plenty of light to live in” [John 8:12]
There is a legend of a village in Southern Europe that boasted of a church called “The House of Many Lamps”. When it was built in the sixteenth century, the architect provided for no light except for a receptacle at every seat for the placing of a lamp. Each Sunday night, as the people gathered, they would bring their lanterns and slip them into the bracket at their seat. When someone stayed away, his place would be dark; and if very many stayed away, the darkness became greater for the whole. It was the regular presence of each person that lit up the church.
What an awesome analogy of reality—remember the time in my life when I was being taught the importance of ‘just showing up’—just be there—be faithful to His call on your life—His Light will shine through you. Woody Allen once said, “Eighty percent of life is just showing up”! “However, there is another thing about the possession of light in Jesus Christ: My possession of light is quite different from yours. Each of us has a particular possession of light that no one else can have and if we refuse to take our possession, everyone else will suffer.” [Oswald Chambers] The reality of His presence means you are never in the dark.
- Walk in the light—Walk as children of light…” [Ephesians 5:8]
- Sons of Light—“You are all sons of light…” [1 Thessalonians 5:5]
- You are Light—“You are the light of the world…” [Matthew 5:14]
- Let I shine—“Let your light so shine before men…” [Matthew 5:16]
Keep on shining in Jesus Christ!
