“Arriving at a quiet place, he sat down and taught his climbing companions. This is what he said: “You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule” (Matthew 5:3 -The Message)
What wonderful word pictures the writer has used – there are so many mountains in a life that call to heights unknown. We climb each one looking for the high plateau, knowing when we arrive we will find the purpose, the reason for leaving the crowd behind and going after what we do not know. Wisdom will bend her ear and listen for understanding.
Huddled together on the mountain peak, worn out from the climb, with the weariness that comes just before you give up—the disciples waited …you are blessed! He said. When things go wrong, when you don’t know where to turn to next, when the stress of life stretches your ability to handle even the smallest of incidents; when there’s more month left than there is money in the bank; when the one you counted on the most decided (at the very last minute) to stay behind and take a different route. When you have no strength left, when you’ve tried every avenue; pushed every button and leaned hard against every door…and it doesn’t open…you are blessed!
What kind of madness is this? Wisdom will wait and listen …when there is less of you; there is more of Me, He said. This is the moment when Light and dark clash and Light takes over, when life and death struggle and life wins, this is the moment when what Peter said makes sense; “ …you …become partakers of the divine nature…” (1 Peter 1:4b)
When self-energy, soul power and having your own way hits the wall you are at the end of your rope! Christ who walked through the wall will take your life and exchange it for His life, His rule, His peace and His provision is established.
Today remember His promise to you: Yield and my Presence will restore passion, power and provide resources for the journey.
