“Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.” [Hebrews 12:28]
There was a season in our lives when our ministry ‘home base’ was in England and most of our time was spent working with the churches there. Having been a naturally born British subject I was able to draw whatever ‘benefits’ I needed. The fact that I was also a U.S. citizen made no difference. Similarly our citizenship in heaven makes no difference to our receiving benefits from or our obligations to the government of the nation of natural citizenship. So what difference does the kingdom of heaven make?
We are here to be a people who walk in power and influence. “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you” [Luke 10:19] We are in the world not of it. Christ overcame the world and so do we; we walk in the knowledge of who He is and who He has made us to be. We are not here to ‘run away’ seeking security in some other place or land; that proves we have yet to learn that our security is in Christ alone!
Like Esther we will learn we can run, but we cannot hide – “Do not think that because you are in the king’s house you alone of all the Jews [God’s people] will escape. For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews [God’s people] will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this?” [Esther 4:14]
Hold fast to the Word of God today and watch as He fulfills His purpose by His power flowing through your life, your life is now hidden in Christ.
