But let patience have its perfect work…”  [James 1:4]

According to James the result of having patience is in order that perfection will be obvious by revealing ‘to us and in us’ a completeness which lacks nothing.  So what does all that mean and how can we ‘process’ this patience?

Life has a way of suddenly drawing us into a whirlwind of change.  Like the nature of wind it bounces from east to west, north to south, exciting for awhile but exhausting. If we attempt to hold-on-to ‘the way things were’ or the ‘way things we think ought to be’ we are told ‘let go’ and be patient!

Patience cannot be bought or taught, we know we need it because when we have reached a point where we say my patience is growing thin, our priorities are ransacked.  Patience begins by:

Preparing your heart by seeking first the Kingdom of God.   “…Seek his kingdom and these things will be given to you as well…where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” [Luke 12:31,34]

Allow the Holy Spirit to work.  “Be …ready for service and keep your lamps burning,” [Luke 12:35]

Trust the Lord “…It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes…he will…come and wait on them”  [Luke 12:37]

Increase your prayer life.  “I will be good for those servants whose master finds them ready even if he comes in the second or third watch of the night”  [Luke 12:38]

Engage in spiritual warfare. “But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into.” [Luke 12:39]

Name the enemy of your soul.  “…If the owner… had known…the thief…”  [Luke 12:39b]

Continue in well doing.  “You also must be ready…” [Luke 12:40a]

Enter into a deeper rest.  “It will be good for that servant whom the master finds doing so when he returns.”  [Luke 12:43]

The perfect work of patience is peace and delivers us from the enemy of personal pride.
