”…You’ll be known as those who can fix anything, restore old ruins, rebuild and renovate, make the community livable again.”  [Isaiah 58:12b The Message]

Some years ago our son-in-law and daughter began the dubious task of renovating and restoring a 150 year old house—one that Sherman decided he would leave standing when Atlanta was burned down.  Not old in British terms but nevertheless old and quite a challenge!

First, much had to be torn down and hauled off before repairs made and the reconstruction would conform to the original blueprint.  Then came the clean-up—the part I had the privilege of helping with, the part that brought the aches and pains and weariness of plain hard work.

It reminded me of this scripture and reminds me of how God is working to restore His church and establish His Kingdom.  If we think for a moment being part of His restoration process is a walk down easy street—look around you.  God is in the restoration process and using this world to reveal it!  Be at peace in it—know that it takes time, it takes human effort, it takes team work, it takes the gifts of skilled laborers, and it takes resources and the perseverance of men and women to accomplish the task.

Though none can see nor say the time that Christ will come, God wisely works amid the strife that man must overcome.  Great joy awaits the workman who daily gives his all to restore the ruined places and repair the broken wall.  When unified in time and task to complete the job that’s given, man will hear the words ring loud and clear ‘well done’ resound from heaven.
