”And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” [Philippians 4:7 NIV]
Watching again the story of Christmas Carol was so relevant to all that is happening today. All around us so many families are struggling with desperate circumstances yet within it is wisdom to help us all keep a healthy perspective. Desperate times help us all to minimize the commercialism and focus on what Christmas is all about.
Simplicity is Christ among us—reaching toward Him in good times and bad times helps us maintain balance in a totally out of balance world. Simplicity is not necessary for ‘cornering the market’ but it is essential to cultivating clarity of vision and purity of heart.
The simplicity of Christ is this, ”…if you make yourselves at home with me and my words are at home in you, you can be sure that whatever you ask will be listened to and acted upon.” [John 15:7 The Message] Simplicity—is a lifestyle-maintained by constant awareness of what is clinging or hanging on that should be loosed. Go back to the basics…back to the real joy of celebration for life itself.
“By the reading of scripture I am so renewed that all nature seems renewed around me and with me, the sky seems to be purer, a cooler blue, the trees a deeper green, light is sharper on the outlines of the forest and the hills, and the whole world is charged with the glory of God and I find fire and music in the earth under my feet” [Thomas Merton]
