“…Uzzah put out his hand to the ark of God and took hold of it…and God struck him there for his error; and he died there by the ark of God” [2 Samuel 5:6-7]
David was only trying to please God by doing what he thought; what seemed good to him. Trouble is God’s presence is in God’s thoughts not man’s. David’s way caused physical death to those that followed him. Today in this new church age doing things our own way may not cause physical death, but death of a dream, death of hope, death to the manifestation of blessing and power of God and always death to JOY.
JOY is found in knowing and doing God’s thoughts God’s way, because He is the Way. Jesus could do nothing without the Father, but on the journey of doing the Father’s will He had GREAT JOY!
This same JOY is ours when God’s thoughts move through our heart and in His presence—Jesus said, “But now I come to You, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have My joy fulfilled in themselves.” [John 17:13] This is the JOY of following Jesus Christ—you are blessed in His presence and filled with His JOY. You can always distinguish religion from relationship, one has a long face furrowed by fear and frowns, but relationship is full of laughter lines and sparkling eyes!
David would continue to learn that his ideas are only blessed when they are placed in God’s hands and accomplished by His design. Shortly after this David told the Lord, I have it in my thoughts to build You a house—and God said—I didn’t ask you to but I will build My house, I will make you My dwelling place, through your life and lineage I will build My house! Now that’s JOY unspeakable and full of Glory!
