“Give, and it will be given to you.  A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” [Luke 6:38]

The secret of a giving heart would surely be revealed in a grandmother’s love.  Two things are highlighted in my experience in this closing of the old year.  They speak of hope that flows down through the generations.  I believe hope is like a river that though there may be obstacles the river never stops flowing toward the promised blessing.

The first one came when one of the inmates in the local jail, a young woman who gave into the allurement of the drug culture, found herself and her husband in jail for Christmas.  Her mother, stepping into the void as grandmothers are prone to do, found herself with three more mouths to feed and Christmas to provide.  So we stepped in to provide what was needed and an anxious, but thankful grandma came to pick up the presents we provided.

The second situation touching my heart was a grandmother who heard about our desire to help in the drug addiction rehabilitation process by providing scholarships for biblical study and life skills training. She was attending one of our groups when she turned to me and said…’when I received your e-mail the Holy Spirit impressed upon my heart that I was to sow financial seed into the scholarship fund, I was to give enough to cover a scholarship for each of my six grandsons”   Her devotion to the Lord obviously was not a new thing. One of her grandsons has already heard and accepted the call to preach the gospel.  Just a young man in his teens, but he has already been given the opportunity to preach in his home church.

Like a cloak of protection her giving heart was covering her grandchildren and at the same time provided a chance of new life for others!  I am so thankful that God has raised up a team in our ministry who are developing horizons for generations to come.
