You are members of God’s very own family, citizens of God’s country, and you belong in God’s household with every other Christian.” (Ephesians 2:19b LB)

LISTEN…springtime and all the messages that every living thing—sings the story of creation. Created by love, nature knows the joy of recognizing all creation and together they reveal a glorious harmony.   Understanding the community of believers is simply seeing the bigger picture and knowing nothing is created to stand alone, be alone, worship alone or procreate alone.

There is a time and season for ‘aloneness’, but maturity—or as the scripture calls it—‘perfection’, can only be revealed in community.  The coming together in unity—it’s a place where honor and preference is top priority.  In His book the Purpose Driven Life – Rick Warren says; “We discover our role in life through our relationship with others”.  I would add that only as our lives add value to others is unity in Christ kept.    “Each part gets its meaning from the body as a whole, not the other way around.  The body we’re talking about is Christ’s body of chosen people.  Each of us finds our meaning and function as a part of his body.  But as a chopped-off finger or cut—off toe we wouldn’t amount to much, would we?” (Romans 12:4-5TM)

In order to grow and increase someone has to move over and make room.  In business terms it’s called delegation.  In the Body of Christ it’s called honor and preference.  Rabbi Harold Kushner said it this way. “The purpose of life is not to win.  The purpose of life is to grow and to share.  When you come to look back on all that you have done in life, you will get more satisfaction from the pleasure you have brought to other peoples’ lives than you will from the times that you outdid and defeated them”  What a statement!

It is never easy to grow!  That’s why Peter said grow in grace and knowledge—grace is the power to move into position for increasing territories and establishing new relationships.   It’s also the wisdom that John the Baptist gave when he said; “Behold the lamb that takes away the sin of the world—he must increase but I must decrease” (John 1:29, 3:30)

Get into harmony this morning by honoring Him—He will empower you to add value to the lives of others and vibrancy to your own.
