”…the time…is come…”  [Solomon 2:12]

What time is it?  For those hearing His voice it is always time to rise and renew = time to worship – time for cleansing – time to recognize and return to the sheep of His pasture – time to separate from all but His Holy Love.

Being ‘sent’ into the market place with the message of the Kingdom means time and schedules must remember the urgency of the hour.  When sending his servant to carry his staff and lay it on the dead child of the Shunamite, Elisha said to the servant.  “If you meet anyone, do not greet him; and if anyone greets you, do not answer him…”   [2 Kings 4: 29].  Was Elisha being unsociable?  Of course not, but there was an urgency in the task at hand.  It was a matter of life and death.  In the East greetings are tedious, full of flattery so easily turned to gossip.  For us it is a warning; remember your calling and do not fritter away time in useless chatter or paths not set by God.

There are many invitations sent out; the discerning ear will know those sent as a personal call from the Master.   When wanting to tend to earthly business Jesus said to his disciples, “Follow Me, and let the dead bury their own dead.”  [Matthew 8:22]  Jesus was fully aware that every moment counted and that the focus of the disciples needed to be on simply following Him.  This is the cost of discipleship.
