“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one-another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” [1 John 1:7]

Many years ago I read the story of a young lad who loved to fish in the creek on his daddy’s land.  Until one day he found in the creek a strangely shaped rock that shone like silver and the rock became a precious keepsake.  Every evening before returning home he would bury the rock along the creek bank for safe keeping and every morning he would take the stone from its hiding place, and wash it clean in the creek until to his delight it would shine.  One day as the young lad played with the strangely shaped rock, a stranger happened by and asked about the rock, so the lad told him the story of finding the treasured rock and how he kept it safe by burying it along the bank of the creek.  The stranger was a wise man and listened intently to the lad’s story and as he turned to go he said to the lad.  “Why don’t you put the rock in the creek bed at night and when you return in the morning the water will have kept it clean and shining for you”?

Only abiding in Christ can produce a harmony that shares fellowship with others—and maintains the cleansing we need to walk in the ‘Way’ that Christ has become for us.
