“…the man who had received the one talent …dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money” [Matthew 25:18]
To hide something simply means you hang onto it—usually for what seems like legitimate reasons but is mostly generated by fear. Fear of failure, fear of rejection, fear of what others will think, fear of lack. This parable is far more important and far reaching than finances. When we use our gifts and abilities for the benefit of others we are fruitful and the fruit can then be invested back into the Kingdom.
So what are some of the reasons you don’t use your gifts and abilities for the good of others? It’s usually the voice in the head that halts, hinders and causes us to hide what God has given. The subtle lies of—I’m not smart enough—not good enough—I don’t qualify—I don’t have any gifts or worse still, ‘what I have is just ordinary!’ These lies are the strongholds of pretension and performance and they do not belong in the Kingdom. It is carnal thinking, worldly values, and meaningless in the Kingdom of God. Either you have told yourself these lies or somebody else has.
When God gives a gift He has a reason, He has a purpose and He has the specific application—it is not by chance, it is not hit ‘n’ miss or given to meet man’s requirements or standards. .James says “…don’t get thrown off course, Every desirable and beneficial gift comes out of heaven…” [James 1:17]
It’s time for YOU to make a difference—be intentional about prayerfully seeking God to know what He has given, why He has given it and where your gifts should be used to serve others…”God’s gifts and God’s call are under full warranty–never canceled, never rescinded.” [Romans 11:29 The Message]
