Having said this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes” [John 9:6 NIV]

Why the saliva?  Why the mud?  This man needed his physical sight restored—but there was a greater need—the need for reconciliation that would produce spiritual eyesight—both would require the ‘touch’ of God’s Light and Glory.

Man was made from the dust of the earth—the earth beneath his feet was the substance from which he was formed. ”The Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground…”  Man was formed but only the breath of God could bring life.  ”…and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.”  [Genesis 2:7]

The man that was blind from birth could easily have his physical sight restored by God but there is always the much more of God’s plan and purpose. Medical science teaches us that to know the parentage of a human being requires the testing of the DNA. DNA that can be found in spittle.  Then the substance that produced the man—the mud made by dust—had to be washed away until all that was left was the effects of the parents DNA.  ”Go, wash …so the man went and washed, and came home seeing.”  [John 9:7]

This cleansing moves man away from the old self, allowing for an inner objectivity and peace whose total loyalty is to Christ and Him crucified.  You may stand in the same place among the same people but you see more clearly like the blind man who saw men walking around as trees the DNA in the spittle mixed with the dust then washed away brought clarity and sight to the blind man. Only when the dust was covered with spittle from the Savior’s mouth could the man’s need be met—his sight restored and his relationship to his true parentage recognized.

The DNA of your heavenly Father is the—Divine—Nature—Attributes Peter said,”…His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature; having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust” [2 Peter 1:3-4 NKJ
