“…I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand.” [Exodus 17:9]

A rod in the hand can be used for blessing or curse—death or life!  We see the rod used by law enforcement constantly in the world and it can be brutal.  There is another rod, however, the rod of the Lord.  Sometimes known as the “staff” or the “sword of the Lord,” it is a weapon of power and blessing.  It is the all powerful creative Word of the Living God.  When alive by the awesome Spirit of God, it is undefeatable.

Paul said, “God…who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter, but of the Spirit, for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.”  [2 Corinthians 3:6]  This spiritual enablement is our “rod.”  It is our license to bring victory by raising it up as Moses did.  Every battle is a spiritual battle ground and we have the weapon of victory!

Jesus used the same weapon with the words, “…it is written…;”   When under attack, He never gave in, never gave up and never failed.  Many have this weapon, but walk in defeat.  Unless and until you hold it in your hand and then lift it over every circumstance of life, it won’t work.  You need not “feel” like it or even understand how it works.  It just does!  Like the Spirit that raised Christ from the dead, the Spirit empowers the Word.

Let the battle rage.  Stand and lift up the Word of God.  It has become His battle and using your weapon, you participate in the victory! The prime directive of God’s Living Word, Jesus Christ, is to destroy ALL the works of the evil one and the weapon we use is His Word in His presence.   Blessing always destroys the curse.
